Sierra Nevada Skiing
Sierra Nevada´s ski courses have been designed by European and American specialists, guaranteeing superb conditions for the skier. With a total of 61 kilometers spread over 39 runs, plus 6 sensational off-course trails, Sierra Nevada offers the visitor a wide choice of activities.
Sierra Nevada has a vertical drop of 1,300 meters, and snow areas for all types of skiers, from beginners to experts. The highlights of its courses were those used in the World Alpine Ski Championships held in February 1996, which more adventurous skiers will be able to enjoy this season.
Also, with the new chairlift to replace the Montebajo lift, overall skier carrying capacity is increased to 31,965 passengers per hour, made possible by a total of 19 lifts: 2 gondolas, 12 chairlifts (four of which are detachable), and 5 ski lifts. Four of these provide direct access to the ski area, the Al-Andalus and Borreguiles gondolas, and the Genil and Jara chairlifts.
Ski lifts are open to the public from 09.00hrs. - 16.30hrs. daily, however, weather conditions may affect lift schedules. Lifts are also open Friday and Saturday evenings for floodlit night time skiing.
How to get here
Sierra Nevada Ski Resort, situated in the municipal area of Monachil, is reached by the highest road in Europe, just 25 minutes from Granada. With 3 international airports nearby, Granada, Malaga and Seville, train and bus station, Granada is an extremely well-connected city. And now, with a modern motorway network, it is under 4 hours from Madrid.
If you are travelling to Sierra Nevada we suggest you book a flight to Malaga airport, and then you can use any Malaga car hire or Malaga transfers company to get to Sierra Nevada in less than 2 hours. Ski Lessons
Spanish Ski School (La Escuela Española de Esquí) is the oldest of ski schools in Sierra Nevada, with centres at all Spanish ski resorts and boasting a highly-qualified team of instructors of all snow and mountain sports.
Snowboarding
Sierra Nevada offers the snowboarder a completely different experience.
Here you can take advantage of the open spaces, natural quarters, windlips and endless slopes under the sun, quite unimaginable for those who haven’t yet visited.
Enjoy the magnificent facilities that provide access to the different areas of the resort. Free-riding at over 3,000m means the best snow quality for over 60km. You can visit our snowpark in the middle of Veleta.
This together with the possibility of night-time snowboarding (weekends) and breathtaking nightlife makes the Sierra Nevada an exceptional venue for this sport. Artistic Skiing
Sierra Nevada, with a wealth of tradition in this sport and ‘birthplace’ of many great acrobatic skiers, continues to encourage this activity offering an Acro-Park for both Snowboarding and Free Style, as well as the typical moguls for training and competitions of all categories.

SULAYR Snow Park
Sierra Nevada also provides a great Snow Park, just for experts snowboarders and skiers. The Sulayr snowpark will delight any freestyle rider. There are new gaps and rails every year, such as the pyramid, the new S-box and many other, in order to provide the most exciting skiing experience. Security is the first condition for fun, that's why there is a team of professional around the snowpark to help anybody that get hurt.
Cross-country Skiing
Of the many possibilities Sierra Nevada has to offer, one of the most interesting is cross-country skiing. This simply involves getting from A to B with the only help of skis and poles and is considered as one of the healthiest physical activities in direct contact with nature. A wealth of nature that Sierra Nevada has to offer such as la Hoya de la Mora, Cauchiles, Peñones de S. Francisco and Loma de Dilar, suitable for safe cross-country skiing.
Sierra Nevada offers two competition cross-country skiing circuits, one located in Borreguiles and another in Pradollano itself. Both circuits require good technique and resistance, not only due to the duration but the height and rough terrain.
Snowmobile excursions
The use of lifts without ski equipment is permitted on the Parador Chair Lift, Al-Andalus & Borreguiles Cable Cars. Waterproof clothing and footwear is recommended. Walking on the slopes is both dangerous and prohibited.
There are activity areas where non-skiers can have fun too, on inflatable toboggans, snowmobile excursions to discover unforgettable views or experience a polar adventure in the sun.
Dog Sleighs
Dog sleigh routes, a different way to enjoy the snow, available for families, corporate groups, couples, etc, suitable for all ages.
Horse-drawn sleighs: panoramic routes on sleighs under the warmth of blankets. Pony-trekking in the snow.
New to the Sierra Nevada, appaloosa and pinto horses, Canadian saddles, and possibility to have a coffee and brandy at Laplander outlets… Pioneering activity in Spain. Anything is possible in the Sierra Nevada…
What to do in Borreguiles if you don’t ski?
In Montebajo there is an area dedicated to non-skiers which includes: getting up and down in Ts Jara, Using the rug lift Montebajo and the chairlift Loma Dilar. Also are available: bike-ski seat-ski and skate-skiing (for children over 7 years. Started with a monitor)
inflatable tobogans.
This activity will give you the opportunity to slip in the snow without any type of danger in a zone prepared specially for it. Very funny activity for adults and children. Once outside the Gondola Al-Andalus, please, go to your right hand side.
Those who don't want to do any of these activities, have the option to take a sun bath in the qualified terraces or have some food in some of the restaurants with magnificent views to the ski area. Also it will be possible to take a walk through the new Commercial Gallery, located next to Telecabina Borreguiles, and to acquire some of the products or a souvenir from your visit to Sierra Nevada.
Parking
Sierra Nevada boasts an underground car park with a capacity for 2,644 vehicles. The largest underground car park in Spain. Sierra Nevada also has an exterior coach park for 100 vehicles.
